In our last post, we asked our spellers what they want the goals for our program to be. They told us that they don't feel like our program needs a specific goal. Instead, they simply want us to provide space - a space to build their community, and a space that provides the time, support, and resources to help them along each of their individual journeys.

They’ll each bring their own unique, individual goals to us,

and we’ll be ready to help them get there.

With all that in mind, for this post we asked: "What are some goals you'd like support with?"

Joe: My goals have changed so much since last year. I used to think I wanted to be more like NT [neurotypical] people. I wanted to have a path like I see NT people have. Now I see I can have my own path. That is what having community has taught me. I am happy to be myself.

Alex D: Wow that was so awesome, man. Always want to walk my own path. I am walking this really hard path I believe because I am strong enough to help others along it. That is why I am all about advocacy. Always want others to see they are not alone. Definitely think if this blog helps someone then we have accomplished something huge.

Jack: Happy to say I feel what Joe talked about in my soul. My goals have changed too. I am all happiness to hear you are are happy to be yourself. That should be everyone’s goal. I know I can have a great life on my own path. I know I can be happy on my own path. I don’t think I know how the path goes yet. I want to keep exploring what makes me happy. I love all of this.

Danny: My goal is advocacy too. You never know who needs a story they can relate to. That is why we should keep sharing.

Luke: All my life I have loved to hear stories. Stories that inspire me are my favorite. All I want is to inspire someone else.

Rose: This is really special. That is why we do this. You all inspire me all the time. That is what makes me excited. That is what community does.

Maudey: Rosie, I agree that this is the point of community. We lift each other up. We share our stories and encourage each other now and in the future.

Alex V: I feel in my whole being so much of Rose’s words. Definitely think community is everything.

Christopher: You guys really are my people. Let me say that I am surprised more people don’t feel inspired by me. Only kidding! But seriously I am inspired by all of you. I feel soon we will reach more people with our inspiring selves. It kick starts my motivation when I hear about other spellers crushing it. It hopefully is motivating to other spellers to read this. I am so proud to be a part of sharing our stories.

Jack: Christopher, I also think it is something to be proud of. I think it is my feeling that we should focus on growing the community, reach more people and share more stories.

Joe: Every time we spell out this blog I am loving it. Other people can see yes we have so much empathy. We have connection. I am loving it.

Sam: Awesome. Having a place to get to share ourselves with others is powerful. That is what the world needs.

Maudey: My heart is all full of joy hearing this. I am having a hard and sad time right now. It brings me light to hear this conversation. You all have hearts that shine bright. Starting to feel your light in me too.

Joe: Maude we are all here for each other. We got you.

Alex D: All love to Maudey. Always aim to shine real light. Also want to say that I am excited to call you all my friends. People may not see it clearly but we have a connection. All love to spellers everywhere.

Rose: My light is always here for you, Maude. Your light shines so bright. It is there even when you can’t feel it.

Maudey: I love you, my friends. Love you all. My love for all of you shines. I am loved. My goals are to feel at peace.

Luke: All people are on a journey towards goals. All people can inspire all others on the way. All of us are inspirations. All of us need inspiring. All of us the same on different journeys.

Joe: I still have goals to keep learning. That is other peoples’ goal too. That is about having a community where no one underestimates us. I love that we can learn anything. I mean that just engaging my mind and growing my knowledge is the goal. And because here I think everyone respects how I am smart I can do that.

Jack: Goals are important but it is ok to change them. Now I share the goal of growing this community. I still have the goal to try college but I don’t know if the goal is to finish college or if it is going to be a way to find my next step. Like one class could send me down a new path, that is ok too.

Rose: My goal is to show that I am capable. That is my hope for life. That is all goals for now. My goal is to show that I am there inside. I am myself and like Joe I am happy with it. That was my goal but I am there now. Now I want others to see it too.

Sam: Goal is having a voice in the world. All people have a right to that. Talking or spelling. All voices count the same.

Christopher: Again goals are my favorite topic. I agree with Jack. My goal not only changes but grows. A helpful thing for me is to ask myself if my goal fits my life at this moment. All my goals must serve this Christopher not yesterday’s Christopher. That guy was not as cool as I am now. We grow each day. Our goals should too.
